ABOUT

Since this is my official biography, I will list the skills I have mastered, keeping in mind that being a member of the "Masters of the Hand-crafted Society" means I am also a part of an unacknowledged rare species.

Too often we grieve the loss or decline of our fellow creatures, but our lack of awareness regarding our own personal loss of creativity has become a sorrow often unidentified within our lives.  Many live with a hidden question: "What is missing from my life?"  For each one, it may be different, but for almost all an essential part will be the study and expression of my individual creativity.

Everything I have accomplished is the result of applying the gifts and interests I was born with to the conditions life gave me to work with, either through my own floundering or from what fate had to offer.

Here is a short summary:

·  Early experience: making a dress for my doll when I was eight.

·  High School: Made my own 50s fashions, full skirts and blouses.

·  Early domestic needs: Home interior sewing, including curtains and upholstery.

·  Hobby interests: Knitting, tapestry and knotted rug weaving, quilting, embroidery and braided rugs.

·  Professional ballroom dancer: costumes and cocktail dresses.

·  Apprentice: Men's tailoring, alterations and suit making.

·  Apprentice: Women's dress-making.  Learned both alterations and courtier dress-making.

·  Single mom era: Working for a silk lingerie designer making prototypes for production in China.

·  My own business: Alterations, dressmaking, bridal gowns, transitioning into home interior sewing which evolved into anything made out of fabric for the home, all original and custom.

·  Teaching:  Extends throughout my career in sewing, knitting, embroidery, weaving, and sock doll making.  Absolutely no crocheted dolls to sit on the back of the toilet hiding a roll of toilet paper under their skirt.

·  Writing:  My most recent endeavor has proven to be the most challenging, but through it, I have found both fun and freedom.  My writing takes two forms: essays that address inner questions, and stories that put my adventures into words.
